DaVinci Pocket Vaporizer
The DaVinci Pocket Vaporizer is a portable and discreet vaporizer that comes in at about the size of a smartphone. It features an aluminium and rubberized exterior finish. This convection vaporizer uses 3 rechargeable Li-Ion battery packs to produce vapor from herbal blends. It utilizes a copper heating element, while the vapor path is primarily food grade plastic. All components are advertised as toxic free, and the circuit board/solder is lead free. The majority of internal components are military spec food grade plastic and stainless steel alloys, so outgassing or overheating shouldn’t occur. It features a digital temperature control that allows for a wide temperature range (up to 465 degrees/combustion temp). This control system displays the current temperature using an LCD display. The DaVinci Vaporizer offers rapid heating to 400 degrees within a minute and a half. The vapor path ends with a flexible, whip-style mouth straw made from high temperature food grade silicone. The DaVinci Pocket Vaporizer includes a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty on the unit itself and a 6 month warranty on the batteries.
The DaVinci Vaporizer has been garnering attention recently as one best portable vaporizers to be released in 2012. It’s very easy to use, highly portable, extremely pocketable, and comfortable to use one-handed. The digital temperature controls system and LCD display allow for great user control and the efficient battery system really shines. It can produce really solid vapor-to-air ratio but can be lacking taste-wise when compared to the Arizer Solo for example. The materials used for components, however, give me pause. If Leonardo da Vinci was alive and designing vaporizers today, I don’t think this is what he’d come up with.
- extremely efficient battery
- four to five 10 minute sessions per charge displays battery level very clear air-flow
- easy to pull fast heatup 10 minute auto-shutoff storage compartment
- slight plastic/rubber taste during break-in period
- taste is somewhat lacking compared to the solo
- doesn’t hit as big as the solo
- very warm/hot vape due to short vape path
The DaVinci Pocket Vaporizer’s lithium ion battery system really works great. Combined with the digital temperature control system and the fast heat-up time, it makes for a very efficient and practical portable vaporizing experience. Despite this, I find I can get much better tasting clouds from some of the other portable products available. I’m also not sold on the materials used for the components. This thing just has too much plastic for me to feel comfortable using it as a primary portable vaporizer. I know some people might label this as paranoia but I’m going to go with ceramic/glass/stainless steel vapor paths/heating elements over anything involving plastic/silicone. I just don’t feel comfortable recommending this due to my strong aversion to plastic vapor paths. There’s also still some confusion about the exact materials used in the heating core and heating chamber (stainless steel? copper? stainless steel-aluminum alloy?) which again reinforces my doubts about the long term health benefits of this unit.
