I happen to work by day as a content creator for an amazing company.  I create media of all kinds.  Copy, graphics, audio, video, everything.  Its a very creative company, and I feel I am a creative person.  Most days, anyway!   A question I have asked myself many times…does marijuana make me more, or less, creative?  We’ll get to my personal opinions in a bit, but the University of Leiden has done a study asking just that:  What does marijuana do for creativity?

These were the University’s findings:

Strong cannabis doesn’t work

The study shows that cannabis with a high concentration of the psychoactive ingredient THC had no effect on creativity.

Increased creativity is an illusion

The research findings contradict the claims of people who say that their thinking changes and becomes more original after smoking a joint.

Too much dope is counterproductive

Colzato: ‘If you want to overcome writer’s block or any other creative gap, lighting up a joint isn’t the best solution. Smoking several joints one after the other can even be counterproductive to creative thinking.’

We think the study had the wrong perspective.

We agree that marijuana doesn’t enable, accentuate, or improve creativity in any way.  But where we differ from the study, is that we feel strongly that marijuana definitely removes the things in your life that get in the way of creativity.  Every human is creative, but Rocco’s modern life is full of things that get in the way of that creativity.  Daily life gets in the way:  children, relationships, daily chores, cooking meals, maintaining every aspect of daily life…that tends to get in the way of our creativity.  Does marijuana do a great job of removing these distractions for a short time so you can delve deep into your self and find the creativity inside you?  We think so.  Does it work for everyone?  We doubt it, but feel strongly that people should have the abilty to decide for themselves what exactly is right for them.
